Cherry Blossom Bonsai with Beautiful Seasonal Interest
Known botanically as Prunus incisa ‘Kojo-no-mai’, this Cherry Blossom bonsai is also called the Fuji Cherry or the “Flight of the Butterflies” tree. It features a distinctive zigzag branch structure that looks elegant even when out of leaf.
In spring, delicate white flowers appear with soft pink tones and deeper pink centres. During summer, fresh green foliage fills the canopy. Autumn then brings serrated leaves in rich shades of orange and red, often followed by small cherry fruits. In winter, the bare branches reveal the tree’s sculptural form.

We grow our cherry blossom bonsai trees outside and they are a deciduous bonsai species. They should be grown outdoors as they are fully hardy. They are early Spring flowerers, so you should see new buds in February/March. When out of leaf they still exhibit a lovely structure. From spring budding you get wondrous soft pink/white blossom, followed by lush lime green leaves. During autumn you get cherry fruits and spectacular autumn red and golden hues.
